«Total Documentary—Visa pour l’Image»
Are you into documentary photography? Do you want to get deeper into documenting the world around you? Then this photo workshop will be a treat for you. The stage for the workshop is beautiful Perpignan in southern France and it’s set in the same week as Visa pour l’Image takes place. Visa pour l’Image is the most important mustering of documentary photography in the world. The festival has been around for 36 years, and this year’s event will thus be the 37th installment of the event.
Imagine immersing yourself completely into photography for a whole week. Experiencing the best of the best from all over the world in the many galleries all over Perpignan and at the giant, outdoor slide shows every evening. And then with this as inspiration, work on your own photography, go out photographing every day, get feedback on the photos you capture, discuss with your peers attending the workshop and top it off with lectures about how to improve your photographic approach.
This is what this workshop is about. Total photography. Total documentary. We guarantee that it will be an intense and transforming experience.
The workshop will be taught by Sven Creutzmann and Otto von Münchow. They are both experienced documentary photographers, having worked for international press for decades. The duo has taught workshops together all over the world such as in Cuba, Bolivia and Nicaragua, in addition to many more places individually. They will draw on their long-time experience and share all their knowledge with you. Otto and Sven will show pictures from their own production and teach lectures about photography and creativity. In addition, they will guide the participants and evaluate their photos every day.

This workshop is aimed at photographers at all levels. The main focus during the workshop will be developing the visual language. Through daily picture critique, Sven and Otto will stimulate the growth of new visual ideas and your creativity, as well as stretch your notion about what a good documentary photograph is.
The workshop is less about technique than about imagery. During the week the workshop takes place, each participant will be encouraged to create images that show passion, life, light and vibrant content. As a participant, you will receive individual evaluation and guidance from Sven and Otto in order to developing your strengths as well as overcoming your photographic weaknesses.
Together, or individually, we will stroll the city of Perpignan and take pictures. At the end of the workshop you will have brought together a visual, strong portfolio of between 5 to 15 engaging photographs. These images will constitute a coherent photo essay about the theme you have chosen built around photos with a personal expression.
Practical Information:
The workshop starts up in the evening of Sunday August 31st with a dinner and ends the morning of Saturday September 6th 2025. The intention is to photograph as much as possible during the week we have at our disposal. We will also gather every day for picture critique and lectures by Sven and Otto. And then we will of course spend time at the many galleries in Perpignan and gather for the slide shows every evening.
This will be a workshop with a lot of time for the individual guidance with Sven and Otto.
Our workshops are designed for a limited number of participants. This means we have small groups so teaching can take place on a more intimate level. But it also means that the workshops get booked quickly. The workshop has space for 12 participants. Participants are enrolled on a first registration first serve basis.
Price:
The price for the workshop is 2500 euro. It covers the workshop fee. Accommodation, meals and transportation to and from Perpignan is not included. There is an 600 euro registration fee in order for you to hold your spot. The deposit is refundable until one month prior to startup.
