«Being Present. Street Photography in Naples»

Naples is not a city you simply visit – it confronts you. It speaks loudly, gestures wildly, and lives right out on the street. From early morning until late at night, small dramas unfold in alleys, on piazzas, and along the sidewalks. This is a city where everything happens at once, and precisely for that reason, Naples is an ideal place to work with street photography.

This workshop, running from September 7th to 12th, focuses on using the camera as a language. Not primarily technique, but how we see, choose, and respond. We work with how composition, timing, distance, and presence can be used consciously to create strong, clear images in public space.

We were a great group. And we learned a lot from you, Sven and Otto. Thanks for a wonderful workshop.

Street photography requires courage, curiosity, and concentration. It’s about being open to the unpredictable, but also about making active choices. When do we move in close, and when do we keep our distance? What happens at the edge of the frame, and why does it matter? In Naples, these questions are constantly presented to us – on the street, in glances, in movement.

The workshop days alternate between photographing out in the city and group reviews. We look at the images together and talk about what works – and why. The goal is not to make “correct” pictures, but to become clearer in one’s own expression and more confident when facing situations that unfold quickly.

The workshop is led by us, Sven Creutzmann and Otto von Münchow. We are experienced documentary photographers who have worked for the international press for several decades. Together we have led workshops around the world – in Cuba, Bolivia, and Nicaragua – as well as many other locations individually. We draw on our long experience and share our knowledge with you throughout the workshop. We will also present work from our own production and give talks on photography and creativity.

The workshop is suited for photographers who are comfortable handling their camera – whether it’s a smartphone or a larger camera – and who want to develop their visual awareness and work more consciously with photographic language. Whether you already work with street photography or are simply curious about the genre, this is an opportunity to immerse yourself in photography – in the midst of one of Europe’s most intense cities.

We work at a calm pace, but with a high level of presence. Naples gives us more than enough to react to. The rest is about being there, looking carefully – and pressing the shutter when it truly matters.

Practical Information:

The workshop begins on Monday, September 7th, with a joint dinner in the evening, and concludes with dinner on Saturday, September 12th, 2026. The ambition is to photograph as much as possible during the week we have together. The focus is on photographic language – and how you can use it consciously to create engaging visual stories on the street.

We meet daily for group image reviews and talks with Sven and Otto. These sessions form an important foundation for the work out in the city and provide space for reflection, discussion, and concrete feedback on your own work.

This is a workshop with ample time for individual guidance. We work closely with each participant, both in the field and during reviews, with the aim of strengthening personal expression and photographic confidence.

Our workshops are designed for a limited number of participants. Small groups create a more focused and intimate learning environment, but also mean that spots fill up quickly. The workshop is limited to 12 participants, and registration follows the principle of first come, first served.
